Sony unveils Japanese-language-only PlayStation 5 at $350

Newsbrief: Sony has announced a Japanese-language-only PlayStation 5 with a suggested retail price of 55,000 yen, which equals to roughly $350.
Announced during the State of Play Japan held on November 11, the company called the announcement "something very special for the Japanese market." The model, which is the Digital Edition of the console, doesn't have any other standout feature. The box, however, does include "Console Language: Japanese Only" underneath the name.
The console is launching on November 21 of this year. It proposes a considerable discount compared to the regular models, especially after the price increase in the United States back in August. With the latter, each console saw a $50 price hike. The Digital Edition, for example, jumped from $449.99 to $499.99, while the PlayStation 5 Pro went from $699.99 to $749.00.
As noted in Sony's fiscal report for the second quarter ended September 30, 2025, the PlayStation 5 sold 3.5 million units during Q2, reaching 84.2 million lifetime sales.
