Report: Discord confidentially files for IPO

Popular video game community and chat platform, Discord, has confidentially filed for an initial public offering (IPO).

As reported by Bloomberg, the company has been working with Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and JPMorgan Chase & Co. on the IPO.

A Discord spokesperson told Bloomberg the company remains focused on "delivering the best possible experience for users and building a strong, sustainable business."

Game Developer has reached out to Discord for comment.

Discord currently has over 200 million monthly users worldwide. In December last year, the platform introduced a new way for players to purchase and gift in-game digital goods from chat, friend's wishlists, and directly within official game communities.

The company believes granting developers the ability to sell digital products will help them reach beyond their owned community and increase their pool of potential consumers.

Discord described its new commerce feature as "win-win for players and developers."

Is Discord's long-awaited IPO finally within reach?

Discord has been operating under new leadership for the past year following the appointment of Humam Sakhnini as CEO in April 2025.

Sakhnini previously served as Activision Blizzard vice chairman and King Digital Entertainment president.

When passing the torch to Sakhnini, outgoing chief exec Jason Citron said the leadership change was made with a view to eventually turning Discord into a public company.

During his tenure at King, Sakhnini was credited with helping the company grow substantially in the public market.

"Humam and I are fundamentally aligned that creating long-term value requires long-term thinking and focusing on an amazing user experience," wrote Citron in his departure email to employees.

Shortly after Sakhnini was hired, Discord was sued (alongside Roblox) for allegedly 'facilitating the sexual exploitation' of a minor. The lawsuit, filed by an anonymous plaintiff in April 2025, claimed that Discord was failing to adequately protect young users from predation.

Discord rolled out new safety and moderation tools for parents and guardians in November 2025, and encouraged them to "play a more active role in safety."
