Tencent appears to have shuttered Timi Montreal around five years after establishing the studio to create an original triple-A franchise.

As reported by Game File, a (now-deleted) LinkedIn post from a former employee indicated the studio has been shut down. Game File reporter Stephen Totilo explained multiple sources had previously stated a shutdown was imminent.

Timi Studios Group is the Tencent subsidiary responsible for developing and operating notable tiles such as Call of Duty: Mobile, Honor of Kings, and Pokemon Unite.

The division is headquartered in Shenzhen, China, but also had offices in Los Angeles, Seattle, Shanghai, and Chengdu back in 2021—when Tencent announced the opening of its new Montreal location. The LA studio, Team Kajiu, was shuttered by Tencent in 2023.

The Montreal team was specifically tasked with developing an "ambitious AAA, service-driven open-world game across multiple platforms," but it's currently unclear what happened to that project.

As noted by Game File, Timi Studios only has vacancies at its studios in China at the time of writing.

Last year, Tencent acquired a 26.32 percent economic stake in new Ubisoft subsidiary Vantage Studios, which will oversee key franchises like Assassin's Creed and Far Cry. The Chinese conglomerate also sunk cash into Lighthouse Games, the UK studio led by Playground Games founder Gavin Raeburn.

More recently, Tencent subsidiary Sumo Digital announced job cuts for the third successive calendar year.
