Nintendo sues US government over Trump administration tariffs

访客2小时前news478

Newsbrief: Nintendo of America has filed a lawsuit today over the Trump administration tariffs, looking for cash back after a federal judge ruled Wednesday that companies that paid tariffs are due refunds.

Via Aftermath, Nintendo is seeking refunds (with interest) from tariffs paid before the Supreme Court struck down many of them in late February. Judge Richard Eaton of the U.S. Court of International Trade issued a ruling on Wednesday that companies that paid the tariffs in question are due refunds, and Nintendo is far from the only company that set about seeking relief. Via Politico, thousands of companies are "lawyering up" and issuing similar suits.

Aftermath notes that the timing of the tariffs hit Nintendo especially hard last year, just as the publisher was headed towards launch for the Switch 2 hardware. The pre-order period was delayed thanks to the tariffs, but Nintendo did successfully execute its strategy (thanks, in part, to launching during a 90-day pause).

Meanwhile, Customs and Border Protection (who are on the hook for the tariff refunds) has said it cannot comply with the refund order.
