Velan Studios expands into Canada to build 'breakthrough games'
Midnight Murder Club and Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit developer Velan Studios has cut the ribbon on a new office in Toronto, Canada.
The company explained the new location will support its work on original titles and external partnerships.
Velan is headquartered in New York but is keen to scale to better support a slate of projects being developed internally.
"At Velan, our goal has always been to make breakthrough games that feel like magic and deliver something that surprises and delights players," said Velan CEO Karthik Bala, who co-founded the studio alongside his brother Guha Bala in 2016.
"As we continue to grow, were excited to bring that mindset to Toronto and collaborate with developers in the area who are curious, thoughtful and passionate about crafting truly special player experiences with us."
Velan is a member of Ontario Interactive (IO), the not-for-profit trade association formed by and for the interactive digital media industry. Much like its New York headquarters, the company's new Toronto office will support a mix of hybrid working (three days a week in-office) and onsite roles.
News of the expansion comes around two years after Velan announced plans to lay off 46 workers after an unnamed external partner abruptly cancelled a project.
