Balatro publisher Playstack has a 'hit ratio' of more than 85 percent

Balatro publisher Playstack has maintained a 'hit ratio' of over 85 percent, meaning the vast majority of titles it has published have generated a positive return on external development costs.

It's a tidbit that was included in the annual report of Playstack parent company TruFin, which explained that every new title published by Playstack in 2025—such as VOID/BREAKER and Unbeatable—remains on track to deliver a return on invested capital.

According to TruFin, Playstack's Return on Invested Development Capital (ROIDC) across its entire console portfolio exceeds 300 percent, with an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of more than 180 percent.

"With more than 20 million new downloads during the year, Playstack is exceptionally well positioned to build on this momentum in 2026 and beyond," reads the report.

The combined Playstack catalog has now grossed over $100 million in lifetime revenue on Steam.

Balatro, which launched in February 2024 and had sold over 5 million units as of January 2025, also delivered record sales in 2025. TruFin didn't provide specific sales numbers, but it's clear the poker-themed roguelike had a stellar year.

Overall, Playstack reported full-year Profit Before Tax (PBT) of £12.2 million in 2025—a 59 percent increase on the £7.7 million PBT it recorded in 2024.

Last year, we spoke to Playstack communications director Wout van Halderen to learn how the publisher executed a marketing masterclass to help Balatro punch well above its weight.

Playstack CEO Harvey Elliott and head of discovery Patrick Johnson also sat down with us to outline the path to a publishing deal in 2025. We suspect some of that advice might still be relevant a few months later.

Playstack currently has eight titles slated for launch in 2026.
