Sony shutters internal studio Dark Outlaw Games

Sony has shut down internal studio Dark Outlaw Games. The PlayStation Studios team was founded by Call of Duty lead Jason Blundell in 2024.
Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier initially shared the news on Bluesky, where he claimed that around 50 people had been laid off in total—including some workers across PlayStation's mobile business.
Sony confirmed the news in a statement to PC Gamer, but neglected to specify how many roles had been eliminated.
"Sony Interactive Entertainment's Studio Business Group has made several strategic adjustments to support long-term sustainability," said a company spokesperson. "As part of this process, there were limited workforce reductions across select teams. We greatly appreciate the contributions of all those impacted."
Dark Outlaw Games was based in Los Angeles. It's unclear how many people the studio employed, with the company's LinkedIn page providing a vague estimate of between 11 to 50 workers.
This is the second PlayStation Studios closure in as many months, with Sony shuttering Demon's Souls remake developer Bluepoint Games in February.
According to Bloomberg, Bluepoint was torched after trying and failing to pitch a number of projects including a Bloodborne remake and a Ghost of Tsushima spinoff.
