Report: WWE 2K26 dev Visual Concepts is laying off staff

WWE 2K26 developer Visual Concepts, part of parent company and publisher 2K, is reportedly laying off staff.
Word of the alleged layoffs comes via LinkedIn, where a software engineer said that, "like many of my very talented colleagues, I was affected by the layoffs at Visual Concepts today."
At least seven employees wrote similar messages yesterday. "After three years and some change, my time at VC is at a close," wrote a systems game designer. "I'm so grateful to all of the extremely talented and dedicated people I've had the opportunity to work with. Best wishes to everyone affected by the layoffs."
"Last week, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder that will shorten my lifespan. Today, while on a sick day because of said autoimmune disorder, I was laid off," wrote a game designer at Visual Concepts.
The extent of the reported layoffs is unknown. When Game Developer contacted 2K for clarification, a 2K spokesperson said the company doesn't have "anything to share or confirm at this time."
This round of job cuts would be the third in three years. In September 2023, the studio reportedly laid off a number of staff at its Austin, TX office. Then, staff at Visual Concepts South were reportedly caught in another layoff wave almost a year later in August 2024.
Subsidiaries under 2K, which is itself a subsidiary of Take-Two, have conducted a number of layoffs in recent months. In July 2025, 2K mobile studio Cat Daddy Games, best known for titles such as NBA 2K Mobile, reportedly laid off staff. Then, the company confirmed that some developers at Civilization developer Firaxis were made redundant in September 2025.
Merely a week ago, 2K reportedly laid off staff at Project Ethos developer 31st Union. The exact number of reductions was not disclosed.
