Xbox Series X price rises to $650 in US due to 'macroeconomic conditions'
Microsoft has announced it is raising the price of the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles just in time for the 2025 holiday season.
Starting on October 3, 2025, the price of Microsoft's flagship consoles will rise between 5 and 8 percent depending on the model. The cheapest Xbox, a 512gb Xbox Series S, will cost $400 (up about 5 percent from $380) and a standard Xbox Series X will cost $650 (up about 8 percent from $600).
This is the second time Microsoft has increased the price of its Xbox consoles in 2025 in the United States. In May, it announced a major price hike that saw the Series S jump from $300 to $380, and the series X jump from $500 to $600.
On both occasions, the company blamed the price increase on "macroeconomic conditions." The price hikes coincided with major developments in the Trump Administration's planned tariffs on countries like China, where Microsoft manufactures its Xbox lineup.
There are no increases to Xbox accessories like controllers or headsets at this time. In its announcement, the company said that it "continue[s] to focus on offering more ways to play more games across any screen and providing value for Xbox players." This announcement comes months after Xbox president Sarah Bond proclaimed that the next generation of Xbox "experiences" wouldn't be "locked to a single store or tied to one device."
It also comes a month before Xbox and Asus roll out the Xbox ROG Ally. Its price has not been announced.
