Sony confirms PS5 hardware is about to become even more expensive

访客1小时前news393

Sony is once again raising the price of PlayStation hardware in response to "continued pressures in the global economic landscape."

New recommended retail pricing will be rolled out on April 2, 2026. The cost of both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will increase by $100 to $649.99 and $599,99 in the United States, respectively. The PlayStation 5 Pro will subsequently cost $899.99 in the U.S.—an increase of $150.

Sony previously revised hardware pricing in the United States in August 2025. At the time, the company said the move was necessary in order to navigate a "challenging economic environment."

This time, however, Sony is raising the price of console hardware and the PlayStation Portal remote player around the globe.

"We know that price changes impact our community, and after careful evaluation, we found this was a necessary step to ensure we can continue delivering innovative, high-quality gaming experiences to players worldwide," added the company in a blog post.

The standard PlayStation 5 cost $500 when it launched in November 2020. It will soon retail for $650.

Both Microsoft and Nintendo have also revised the price of hardware and accessories in recent months.

Hardware manufacturers across the electronics industry are currently contending with tariffs imposed by U.S. president Donald Trump and component shortages resulting from rampant investment in generative AI.

Earlier this year, Valve delayed pricing and shipping announcements for its upcoming Steam Machine as a direct result of the RAM shortage. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa also said the situation could "put pressure on profitability."
